Biography

1943	Jan. 24	0 years old	Born in Ganriin-cho, Nara-city, Nara. His family ran a time-honored Japanese restaurant called Meishukan where many public figures visited.
1950	Apr.	7 years old	Entered Elementary School, Nara University of Education. Just after entering the school, an art teacher Yoshikazu Nishioka introduced him to painting. He owned a camera in his boyhood days.
1956	Mar./ Apr.	13 years old	Graduated from Elementary School, Nara University of Education. Entered Junior High School, Nara University of Education. Belonged to an art club and to a baseball club throughout his time in junior hight school and in high school.
1956	Nov.	13 years old	Received a prize at Nara Prefectural Art Exhibition.
1959	Mar./ Apr.	16 years old	Graduated from Junior High School, Nara University of Education. Entered Nara High School.
1962	Mar.	19 years old	Graduated from Nara High School.
	Apr.		Entered Department of Painting, Tokyo University of the Arts.
1964		21 years old	Joined a study trip for antiquities. Impressed by the Horyuji Mural Painting. This experience led him to major in mural painting in the graduate school.
1966	Feb.	23 years old	Received the Ohashi Prize for his work Blue Interval which was exhibited at the graduation exhibition.
	Mar.		Graduated from Department of Painting, Tokyo University of the Arts, where he studied under professor Ryohei Koiso.
	Apr.		Entered Graduate School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts. Studied classic fresco painting under professor Minao Shimamura.
	Oct.		The 34th Dokuritsu [Independent] Exhibition. Exhibited Ao no Sakusou [Blue Confusion] and Trick of Harmony. Received the Dokuritsu Prize.
1967	May	24 years old	Exhibited Traces of Illusion at the 6th Exhibition of Independents [Dokuritsu] Selected.
	Oct.		Exhibited Ao no rekidan [Runover by Blue] and Mark of Harmony at the 35th Dokuritsu [Independent] Exhibition. Received the Dokuritsu Prize.
1968	Mar.	25 years old	Graduated from Graduate School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts.
	Apr.		Became a teaching assistant at Tokyo University of the Arts.
	May		Exhibited Aoi kaze [Blue Wind] at the 7th Exhibition of Independents [Dokuritsu] Selected.
	Oct.		Exhibited Ao no kairan [Blue Destruction] and Taikou no soba [Faded Red Mountain] at the 36th Dokuritsu [Independent] Exhibition. Became a member of the Dokuritsu Art Association.
1969	Mar.	26 years old	Exhibited his work at the 12th Ysui Prize Exhibition.
	May		Exhibited Ao no kaisetsu [Blue Diffraction] at the 8th Exhibition of Independents [Dokuritsu] Selected.
	Oct.		Exhibited Blue Isolation and Traces of a Blue Wind at the 37th Dokuritsu [Independent] Exhibition.
1970	July	27 years old	His first solo exhibition, Kinutani koji koten [Koji Kinutani Solo Exhibiton] was held at the Shiseido Gallery in Ginza.
	Aug.		Was invited to the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice by Professor Bruno Saetti who was visiting Japan to give lectures for an intensive fresco painting course at Tokyo University of the Arts.
	Aug.		Resigned as the teaching assistant at Tokyo University of the Arts.
	Oct.		Exhibited his work at the 38th Dokuritsu [Indipendent] Exhibition.
1971	Mar.	28 years old	Went to Italy to study at the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice at his own expense.
	Oct.		Exhibited his work at the 39th Dokuritsu [Indipendent] Exhibition.
	Dec.		Exhibited series of works, Flight of the Apple at an exhibition held by the Bevilacqua la Masavezzia Foundation. Received the La Masa Prize. The work was purchased by the Ca’ Pesaro Venice – International Gallery of Modern Art.
1972	May	29 years old	Solo exhibition, Koji Kinutani was held at the Scotland House in Milan.
	June		Exhibited Motovun no tuki [Moon of Motovun] at the exhibition Incontro A Motovun in former Yugoslavia. The work was purchased by Pazin Museum. Later, exhibited at the same exhibition in 1973 and in 1978.
	Oct.		Exhibited Nella Camera and Venezia at the 40th Dokuritsu [Indipendent] Exhibition.
1973	Jan.	30 years old	Solo exhibition was held at the Cavalion Gallery in Venice.
	June		Graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice.
	July		Dispatched to the Central Institute of Restration in Rome by the Agency for Cultural Affairs to take conservation measures for the mural paintings of the Takamatsuzuka tumulus.
	Sep.		Solo exhibition was hled at the Venice Municipal Museum of Art.
	Sep.		Came back to Japan.
	Oct.		Joined the 3rd investigation of the Takamatsuzuka tumulus in Nara as a conservation task force member.

	Nov.		Solo exhibition was held at the Saikado Gallery in Ginza. Exhibited his works made in his time in Europe, including reproductions of old paintings.
1974	Mar.	31 years old	Exhibited Portrait of Mr. Anselmo (Belong to Tokyo Museum of Modern Art) and Torso’s TearsⅠat the 17th Yasui Prize Exhibition on the recommendation. Received the 17th Yasui Prize for Portrait of Anselmo at the youngest age among the successive recipiensts. The work was purchased by Tokyo Museum of Modern Art.
	May		Solo exhibition was held at the Nara Culture Center.
	Oct.		The 42nd Dokuritsu [Indipendent] Exhibition. Exhibited Portrait of Miss Sandra.
1975	Oct.	32 years old	The 43rd Dokuritsu [Indipendent] Exhibition. Exhibited Portrait of Daria Ganassini.
1976	Oct.	33 years old	The 44th Dokuritsu [Indipendent] Exhibition. Exhibited Angela and the Blue SkyⅡ(Belong to Tokyo Museum of Modern Art).
	Nov.		Solo exhibition was held at the Gallery Saikado in Ginza.
1977	Feb.	34 years old	Angela and the Blue SkyⅡ was purchased by the Agency for Cultural Affairs under FY1976 Excellent Artwork Purchase Program.
	Oct.		The 45th Dokuritsu [Indipendent] Exhibition. Exhibited Self-Portrait with Blue Sky (Belong to The Tokushima Modern Art Museum).
	Oct.		Appointed as a trainee for FY1977 program of Overseas Study for Upcoming Artists, Agency for Cultural Affiars. Visited Boston and New York via Mexico and later Europe.

1997	Feb.	54 years old	Produced an original drawing for the Nagano Winter Olympics official poster, A Goddess of the Silvery Peaks in addition to other original drawings for posters for seven sports.

	Dec.		Produced a mural painting Ten hisyou [Heaven, Flying] and Zitugetu Soukaku Fuji [Sun, Moon, Two Cranes and Mt. Fuji] for the Kitakashiwa General Rihabiliration Hospital in Kashiwa City.
2000	Apr.	57 years old	Solo exhibition was held at the Miyazaki Prefectural Art Museum. Produced Himuka [Sunny Place] in public over the duration of the exhibition.
	May		Produced a bronze work Sen no yume wo motu otoko [A Man with Thousands Dreams] at the request of the National Mint Bureau of France.

2001	Mar.	58 years old	Received the Japan Art Academy Prize for Dream Tale of the Blue Sky. Was recommended to become a member of the Japan Art Academy.

2007	Jan.	64 years old	Gave lectures Kodomo, Yume, Art, Academy [Children, Dream, Art, Academy] sponsored by the Agency for Cultural Affairs and the Japan Art Academy at his old school, Junior High School, Nara University of Education. Later, visited many schools throughout the nation.

2008	May	65 years old	Attended the luncheon party at the new public hall to welcome the Chinese President Hu Jintao who was visiting Nara Prefecture.
	June		Produced a ceramic mural painting Kira Kira Shibuya [Sparkling Shibuya] in Shibuya Station to commemorate the opening of the Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin Line.
	Sep.		Established the Koji Kinurani Prize to reward young painters. In February of the following year, a painter who received the 1st Koji Kinutani Prize was announced.
	Sep. 	Oct.		Solo exhibition, Koziki hensan 1300 nen kinen tokubetu ten Kinutani Koji ~houjyonaru image~ [Koji Kinutani Special Exhibition to commemorate the 1300th Anniversary of Compilation of Kojiki, Recoreds of Ancient Matters ~ A Fertile Imagination~] was held at the Nara Prefecture Museum of Art.

2014	Mar.	71 years old	Solo exhibition, Abeno Harukas Gurando open kinen Kinutani Koji ten [Koji Kinutani Exhibition to Commemorate the Grand Opening of the Abeno Harukas] was held at the Art Gallry of Kintetsu Department Store Main Store Abeno Harukas.
