An article concerning the ema (votive plaque) project at Kasuga Taisha Shrine in Nara, which Koji Kinutani had been working on since 2023, was published in The Yomiuri Shimbun (evening edition, May 19) and The Mainichi Shimbun (May 26).
The original painting for the “Horse” (uma) ema featured in these articles is one of the final works on which Kinutani was engaged before his passing. The artwork is currently on view in the exhibition “Horse Racing Screens and the Art of Horses” at the Kasuga Taisha Treasure Hall through July 12.
In addition, one visitor to the exhibition will be selected by lottery to receive a standing ema (tate-ema) featuring Kinutani’s original artwork (applications will be accepted through the final day of the exhibition). This ema is a limited-edition work, with only 150 editions available worldwide.
